The East Micronesia Cable System (EMCS) is a 2,250km submarine cable system connecting four islands amongst the Federated States of Micronesia (Pohnpei and Kosrae), Kiribati (Tarawa) and Nauru. The EMCS is the first submarine cable connection for the islands of Tarawa (Kiribati), Nauru and the state of Kosrae (FSM).
The East Micronesia Cable project is a four-year project that commenced implementation in 2022, with an expected delivery date of late 2025. Cable landing stations will be constructed at landing points in each country to facilitate connection to the main cable.
Land-based infrastructure at each site will support the landing, capacity and use of the East Micronesia Cable and will comprise: Cable Landing Stations (CLS) at each site to house all of the optical transmission equipment and power feed equipment for the submarine cable system.
The submarine fibre optic cable stretches approximately 2250km from Tarawa to Pohnpei and will connect to the existing HANTRU-1 cable, which connects Pohnpei to Guam. The project will construct cable landing stations at landing points in each country. Once completed, the East Micronesia Cable system will:
The EMCS is the first submarine cable connection for the islands of Tarawa (Kiribati), Nauru and the state of Kosrae (FSM). The East Micronesia Cable System: Comprises a main trunk cable connecting Tarawa to Pohnpei with branches to Nauru and Kosrae .
The East Micronesia Cable Management Committee leads on project implementation. The Management Committee comprises a representative from each of the State-Owned Enterprises mandated by their countries (i.e. Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati and Nauru) to develop and deliver the East Micronesia Cable project.
The global containerized energy storage and solar container market is experiencing unprecedented growth, with commercial and industrial energy storage demand increasing by over 400% in the past three years. Containerized energy storage solutions now account for approximately 50% of all new modular energy storage installations worldwide. North America leads with 45% market share, driven by industrial power needs and commercial facility demand. Europe follows with 40% market share, where containerized energy storage systems have provided reliable electricity for manufacturing plants and commercial operations. Asia-Pacific represents the fastest-growing region at 60% CAGR, with manufacturing innovations reducing containerized energy storage system prices by 30% annually. Emerging markets are adopting containerized energy storage for industrial applications, commercial buildings, and utility projects, with typical payback periods of 1-3 years. Modern containerized energy storage installations now feature integrated systems with 500kWh to 5MWh capacity at costs below $200 per kWh for complete industrial energy solutions.
Technological advancements are dramatically improving containerized energy storage systems and solar container performance while reducing operational costs for various applications. Next-generation containerized energy storage has increased efficiency from 75% to over 95% in the past decade, while solar container costs have decreased by 80% since 2010. Advanced energy management systems now optimize power distribution and load management across containerized energy storage systems, increasing operational efficiency by 40% compared to traditional power systems. Smart monitoring systems provide real-time performance data and remote control capabilities, reducing operational costs by 50%. Battery storage integration allows containerized energy storage solutions to provide 24/7 reliable power and load optimization, increasing energy availability by 85-98%. These innovations have improved ROI significantly, with containerized energy storage projects typically achieving payback in 1-2 years and solar container systems in 2-3 years depending on usage patterns and electricity cost savings. Recent pricing trends show standard containerized energy storage (500kWh-2MWh) starting at $100,000 and large solar container systems (50kW-500kW) from $75,000, with flexible financing options including project financing and power purchase agreements available.
